Cabinet War Rooms

 

The secret underground headquarters of the War Cabinet and the Chiefs of Staff who commanded operations during World War II, it was the nerve centre of Britain's war effort from 1939 to 1945. It is dedicated to the life and times of one of the ‘greatest Briton's' that ever lived Sir Winston Churchill.

The exhibition includes original footage, photographs and audio recordings on a 50 foot interactive graphical timeline depicting Churchill's and his staff's activities in the rooms deep below the Government Office Building. From Churchill's childhood to his ‘finest hour' visitors can learn about his pleasures, personal routines, private life and political exploits including many of his trademark props - including a cigar and his red siren suit and trademark top hat - are on display

The Cabinet & Map Room where the course of the war was directed and Sir Winston's living quarters are still in much the same condition as they were in 1945 when victory was declared and the doors were closed.

All visitors are provided with a free personal acoustic sound guide, available in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Hebrew, Dutch and Mandarin.
