Petticoat Lane

Petticoat Lane is home to one of London's great markets which took its name from the petticoats that were made by the French immigrants in the East End. A market has been trading on this site for over two centurys.

It is now called Middlesex Street as the local authorities thought it improper to have a street named after a ladies undergarment.

Should you visit this old market you will find over a thousand stalls spread over two streets offering a huge variety of very affordable clothes and shoes as well as some very reasonable leather goods. Like any traditional market bartering is acceptable so have a go and grab a bargain!

Petticoat Lane is full of hustle and bustle, great for finding unusual gifts and a great place to spend a few hours. The recent influx of bars and restaurants (many selling traditional Jewish food) has led to the markets expansion and many establishments offer cheap drinks and enticing ‘happy hours'.

The market opens on weekdays but the time to go is Sunday.

Happy shopping!
